His Personal Experience and Biography

Long-Form Biography: Marketing Pioneer in the Health and Nutrition Industry

Early Life and Influences: Creativity and curiosity shaped my upbringing. High school experiences in art, graphic design, and being part of a rock band ignited my passion for storytelling and communication. My father and mother instilled a strong work ethic and problem-solving skills, while one of my aunt’s free-spirited nature and interest in organic foods and nutrition inspired me to embrace integrative healthcare innovation. These influences laid the foundation for a career built on creativity and strategic thinking.

Early Career

My professional journey began with entrepreneurial ventures such as founding Amp Art Studios, where I refined my skills in video production and business development. At Dan Silverman Studios, I gained invaluable experience in live TV production and commercials for major brands like General Mills. These experiences taught me the importance of agility, particularly when a “Free Overnight Rental Video,” business evolved into the pay-per-interview publicity business model that introduced me to consumer behavior and adaptability.

The pivotal moment in my career came when agencies like Mona Meyer and McGrath (now Weber Shandwick) sourced our pay-per-interview publicity model. This introduced me to the broader world of public relations and marketing. Authors like Edward Bernays and mentors like Lonny Kocina (founder of Media Relations Agency) helped me deepen my understanding of the 4 P’s of marketing, providing the foundation for strategic publicity and marketing promotions integration.

Career Highlights

In 1988, I joined the Media Relations Agency and launched its Health and Nutrition Division in the early 1990s. This role allowed me to merge my passion for marketing promotions with the natural products industry I had fallen in love with. My work encompassed iconic ingredients such as Lycopene, Wakunaga’s aged garlic extract, and Met-Rx protein powder, helping them gain national recognition.

I championed integrating the marketing mix—product, price, place, promotion—with a focus on consumer-centric strategies. Over time, I expanded my expertise to include digital promotions, email marketing, product development, branded ingredient launches, and integrated retail and Amazon campaigns. I also spearheaded advisory board development in the dietary supplement industry with companies like GNC and Jamieson while building world-class key opinion leader networks, and bridging science-based innovations with consumer needs.

The guiding philosophy that emerged during the first 10 years of my career was simple yet profound: “Serve First, Success Follows.” This approach earned clients’ trust, friendship, and opportunities I could have never imagined.

Industry Evolution

Over my career, the marketing landscape has undergone significant transformations. Traditional media has given way to influencer marketing, digital platforms, and AI-driven strategies and tools. I embraced these changes, evolving from a publicity-focused professional to a well-rounded marketing strategist that I define as a fractional CCO, CMO, hyper connecter, and business accelerator.

One of the hardest lessons I learned was missing an opportunity to pivot a local health and nutrition consumer tradeshow into an influencer-focused event—an idea ahead of its time but emblematic of the importance of anticipating industry trends and taking risks.

Expertise and Legacy

My expertise spans:

• Marketing strategy, planning, and execution.

• Retail promotions and e-commerce strategies (Amazon, Shopify).

• Multimedia production and custom publishing (educational websites, YouTube video series).

• Product launches, brand development, IP, and regulatory compliance.

• Market research and data-driven decision-making.

• Harnessing new marketing technologies to accelerate awareness and sales.

Collaborations with industry leaders like Morris Zelka, Royden Brown, Dr. Scott Connelly, Steve Snyder, and Dr. Joe Maroon, Scott Smith & Forsberg have enriched my career beyond my imagination.

I’ve also contributed to the introduction of product categories such as immune support, joint health, gut health, sports nutrition, sleep, and longevity.

By being at the right place with the right level of experience, curiosity, and passion bridging evidence-based science with consumer-facing products, I’ve helped brands deliver their promises of efficacy, safety, and transparency to consumers seeking wellness and health and I can’t think of anything more rewarding than that.

Philosophy and Forward Thinking

At the core of my career is a commitment to service, adaptability, and innovation. Whether integrating AI into marketing strategies or fostering relationships with influencers, my mission remains to help brands tell authentic stories that connect with their audiences. By capturing attention, building interest, and earning trust, I empower brands to inform and teach customers and consumers effectively.

As I reflect on my journey, I am proud of the impact I’ve made in shaping the health and nutrition industry. I look forward to continuing this work through consulting, mentorship, and thought leadership.

Personal Experience: A Journey Through Health and Nutrition Marketing

For over three decades, I had the privilege of leading the Health and Nutrition Division at Media Relations Agency. My career has been defined by strategic planning, public relations, and marketing communications that drive product sales and awareness. From launching innovative promotional campaigns to building relationships with industry leaders, my passion has always been helping brands thrive in the health and natural products sector.

Transitioning from a 60-hour workweek to health and nutrition consulting, I now provide expertise in strategic planning, marketing, and sales solutions. My career has spanned brand strategy, event promotions, multimedia productions, market research, and consumer profiling. I specialize in crafting comprehensive marketing and sales strategies tailored to consumer trends and regulatory landscapes, helping brands connect authentically with their audiences.

Building relationships with pioneers in the health and nutrition industry has been a cornerstone of my journey. Whether during the development, launch, or growth stages of a product, ingredient, or service, I’ve consistently found joy in connecting people and solving problems—leading to successful campaigns and lasting partnerships. One philosophy has guided me throughout my career: “Serve First, Success Follows.” This mindset emphasizes service over sales.

I’ve had the privilege of working with groundbreaking products such as Lycopene (Lycomato’s), aged garlic extract (Wakunaga), and Spirulina, collaborating with esteemed professionals like Dr. Bill Sears, Dr. James Balch, Dr. Joe Maroon, and Dr. Scott Connelly. My work extends beyond traditional PR into broader marketing services, including product development, clinical research, partnerships, video production, and leveraging social media and e-commerce platforms for maximum reach and impact.

Reflecting on my 37-year career, I’ve witnessed a significant evolution in the natural products industry. From the rise of influencer marketing and AI-driven strategies to shifts in media consumption, I’ve continually adapted to the changing landscape. A pivotal lesson in my career—a missed opportunity to transform a health and nutrition tradeshow into an influencer conference—underscored the importance of foresight and adaptability. Through both successes and setbacks, I remain committed to innovation and serving my clients with excellence.
